Body

Some days were dedicated to building back my physical strength, while others focused on mental clarity. I discovered that repairing my body and healing my mind required intense focus but demanded different types of energy.
Waking up and walking was hard, but, despite the pain, I got up. Each step to the bathroom was a small win, a reminder of my limits and progress. It was humbling! Each day, I celebrated small wins: walking a bit farther, standing a bit longer, and taking care of myself more easily.

Here are some ways that I rebuilt my body:

Get Out of Bed

It might sound simple, but there were days that I didn’t want to move. So, try to get up—making the bed not required.

Ask Yourself, “How Do I Feel Today?”

By paying close attention to how you feel, you can gauge your capabilities and adjust accordingly.

Short Walks with a Purpose

I would take my dog, Teddy, for short walks, and she looked forward to them.

Gentle Yoga

Walking to yoga was a huge step. The class was at a specific time, and I had to make sure that I got there by walking before the class started.

Sound Meditation

In sound meditation, I would just sit in the same position for 45 minutes and let the vibration of sound be a part of my recovery.

Work with a Trainer

I hired a trainer to help me rebuild my strength. It was a financial commitment, but it made me show up.
